If you are thinking about living in Scotts Valley...

by Schooner Realty 04/01/2019

Scotts Valley is an incorporated city within the County of Santa Cruz. Residents enjoy the community for a variety of reasons. Here are a few you might like to know if you are considering buying a home in this part of the county.

Scotts Valley is off Route 17 headed towards San Jose from the coast. It is above the fog line, and enjoys both sunnier summers and rainier winters than other cities on our side of the hill. For commuters to Silicon Valley, it provides a shorter drive since they do not have to contend with Route 1. Scotts Valley schools have an excellent reputation.

Although some might say that the business areas lack charm, they do provide most services that residents need within a five or ten-minute drive from home. These include three supermarkets, two pharmacies, and a variety of specialty stores. A wide range of restaurants serves the tastes of everyone in the community. From barbeque to sushi and breakfast to post-dinner snacks, there is something for everyone. Three recent additions to the food scene are The Redwood Sandwich shop, Café Hanna Greek restaurant, and Rita’s emporium of ices and custard. And the city’s very own movie multiplex shows all the first-run films in comfortable, state-of-the-art theaters.

Recreation opportunities abound, too. The centerpiece of the local park system is Skypark. It includes ball fields, tennis courts, and a playground. It is the scene of an annual art and wine festival and a beer festival as well as other periodic events. The Scotts Valley Public Library has a great collection tied into the county library system and sponsors community events throughout the year. Scotts Valley also hosts its very own Farmers’ Market every Saturday from April through November at the Community Center on Kings Village Road. A wide variety of produce, prepared foods and flowers are offered for sale, and both live music and children’s activities provide a lively, engaging atmosphere.
